Cairns Estate, Kirknewton

Geddes worked with the client and local authority to develop the planning strategy for a farm diversification project (including new wedding and events venue) at Cairns Farm in West Lothian. The site is within the Pentland Hills Regional Park and a designated Special Landscape Area.

The proposal includes the conversion of existing farm buildings to form the new venue, along with accommodation on site.

Geddes led the client through the planning process from appointment of the project team to coordination and submission of several planning applications for the various elements of the proposal.

To date, Geddes has secured three separate planning consents for the client, with a further application for the last element of the scheme currently being finalised.

  • Geddes project managed the planning application process and enabled the main planning application to be determined within only three months from submission
  • Early engagement with the local authority ensured all relevant matters were addressed in a comprehensive planning submission
  • We carried out landscape design work and an appraisal of landscape and visual impacts to demonstrate the proposal is well-integrated into its setting in the Pentland Hills Regional Park and designated Special Landscape Area
